Kids/Teens

Counseling for Kids and Teens

Whether you are a child/teen or the parent of a child/teen, you know the pressures on youth and the challenges they face are immense. Thankfully, more and more of the younger generations are embracing therapy and care for their mental health. West Michigan Wellness Group has many therapists uniquely equipped to serve this population.

Counseling for children and teens may center around, but is not limited to:

  • Emotional regulation
  • School-related struggles
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Trauma
  • Grief
  • Self-harm/suicidality
  • Relationship struggles
  • Behavior concerns
  • Life adjustments (divorce, transitions, etc.)
  • Emerging adult concerns

Kids and Teens: Trust and rapport are important

It can be a big step to enter a counseling room. You may not even be totally on board, as your parents are the ones encouraging the help. Our counselors know that providing a safe, comfortable space is especially important for you. Building trust and rapport is a major focus in the beginning, along with assessing what might be helpful and beneficial on your therapy journey. We know how helpful and important it can be for you to have a place for you. A place where you can be honest and supported.

Parents: It takes a village

Along with the pressures on youth, the pressures also exist for parents. Parents, we see you and know you are doing your best to try and help your child. We also know it takes a village. Our therapists would be honored to be invited into your child’s village. Having a neutral, unrelated, trusted adult in their life is a gift to children. So often, this person becomes someone they can open up to in ways they may not to their parents or others in their life. There are many factors that determine how much you can be involved in your child’s mental health care. Feel free to start a conversation with the therapist to gain a better understanding of how this will work.

Specially trained and equipped

In addition to being a well-trained therapist, it also takes additional knowledge and tools to effectively work with youth in the therapy room. We have a number of therapists on our team with countless hours and years of training and experience ready to meet and work with your child or teen. Whether it’s play therapy, creativity or art, games and interactive play, our counselors are equipped to help a variety of ages.
